London allocates $25 million to help repair Ukraine’s power grid
The United Kingdom will provide GBP 20 million ($25 million) to fund repairs on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry announced on May 8.
The funds, which are expected to be made available shortly, will be allocated for purchasing equipment to restore damaged energy infrastructure, as well as for enhancing physical protection and providing backup power supply, including generators and distributed generation facilities.
Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko added that Moscow continues to destroy Ukrainian energy facilities, so aid from partners is extremely important for the repairs before the next winter.

Early in the morning on May 8, Russia attacked Ukraine’s power grid with 55 ballistic and cruise missiles and 21 kamikaze drones. Although the Ukrainian military announced it had shot down 39 of the incoming missiles, power generation and transmission facilities in Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia oblasts were struck.
National power grid operator Ukrenergo later announced it will restrict power supply to industry and businesses in peak load hours — from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. If peak hours consumption increases any further, household consumers will also face emergency blackouts.
