Talk about a false alarm: Facebook users in Singapore went into a huge shock as photos began circulating on what appears to be a woman lying on the floor outside her housing block, in a stance similar to someone who might have jumped down from a flat to commit suicide.
Fortunately, it was not so: the woman was merely taking a nap in the afternoon sun waiting for her spices to dry.
The photo was shared by Facebook user Boy Zam on Saturday and has received more than 8,200 shares as of press time.
In the photo, the woman is seen wearing a traditional Indian sari and sleeping over a makeshift mattress made out of newspapers as she waits for her spices to dry under the hot sun.
Commenters largely heaved a sigh of relief at the situation but took the mickey out of it anyway.
Some Indians are asking for the post to be taken down because it may disrespect the woman who may not know what the rules of the country are when it comes to civil obedience.
These people have also alluded to the cultural reason why the woman might have decided to lay out the spices to dry under the hot sun: it could symbolize a mother’s love for her children to make spices using fresh ingredients and not buy processed ones from the store.
Also, she’s taking care of her spices so the birds don’t end up taking a dump on them.
Well, at least we can all agree that we should all be grateful the incident was more of a cultural learning point than someone actually dying.
