Locals Voicing Concerns Over New Shuttle Bike Park In Sandpoint, ID

A new shuttle access bike park near Sandpoint in Sagle, Idaho is set to break ground on May 1st and though the wider consensus is that another shuttle park would be a welcome addition to the inland northwest riding community, some locals are voicing concerns about the development.

The Panhandle Bike Ranch property is situated on 170 acres southeast of Sagle and would require parkgoers to drive through a small, rural neighborhood.

The park's property is a 170 acre square around the switchbacking road in the center of the frame.

Locals are speaking out against the park saying it will ruin the tranquility of the region, cause environmental harm, create a fire risk, and compromise public safety. The minds behind the park - the Kalbach family - have been comparing their vision to that of the wildly successful Montana shuttle park, Legacy Bike Park, and have addressed some of the locals' concerns saying, "I don't think it's true at all. I think that the mountain bike crowd tends to care about nature and the environment. I believe that it'll fit perfectly within the community." Per KXLY Spokane/Coeur D'Alaine.

A public hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Bonner County Administration Building to decide whether to grant a conditional permit to the Kalbachs to develop the park. The area is currently not zoned for commercial use.

Online public comment submission has closed as of April 10th and locals are encouraged to show up to the hearing to voice their thoughts on the proposed park.

We have reached out to the park directly for comment regarding the locals' concerns about the park ruining the tranquility of the area and will update the article when we hear back.
