Locals honored at Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Awards program

The Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) recognized Ohio’s top students during the annual Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Awards Program in April.

Area students receiving the award in 2024 are Jenna Hartson from Ashland High School representing Ashland County, Autumn Shaw from East Holmes High School representing Holmes County and John Pomfret from Wooster High School representing Wayne County.

Jenna Hartson

Hartson is the daughter of Rob and Jill Hartson of Ashland. She is ranked first in her graduating class at Ashland High School. She will attend Otterbein University majoring in education. Her goal as a teacher is to recognize and act when a student needs extra help or encouragement.

Autumn Shaw
Autumn Shaw

Shaw is the daughter of Laurie Shaw of Sugarcreek. She is ranked 33rd in her graduating class at Hiland High School. She will attend the Art Academy of Cincinnati majoring in studio arts. She has a passion to develop her art fundamentals.

John Pomfret
John Pomfret

Pomfret is the son of Tim and Margaret Pomfret of Wooster. He is ranked ninth in his graduating class at Wooster High School. He will attend Purdue University majoring applied physics with a minor aerospace systems and aviation. He has a passion for aviation and psychics.

Nominated by one of the 51 Ohio educational service centers (ESCs), eligible applicants are high school seniors who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and community service as indicated by high school grades, test scores, school and community activities and awards.

The award program, named in honor of Ohio’s 31st state superintendent of public instruction, Franklin B. Walter, was established in 1989 to promote and recognize student leaders for their academic achievement and service to schools and communities. One senior from each county in Ohio is eligible to receive the honor.
