BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — A locally produced film, “Searching for the Elephant,” will play at Legacy Theaters in Bristol from March 28 to April 4.

“Searching for the Elephant” was shot in the Southwest Virginia and Tri-Cities areas last year.

The film stars Joseph Stam, Rick McVey, Sharonne Lanier, and Libby Smallbone. It was written and directed by Stam and David Alford and produced by Jason Davis.

News Channel 11 spoke with McVey, who plays Griff Bowden in the film, at the film’s premiere Thursday:

“You know, we’re hopeful [to see] as many people as possible, and we hope the word gets out and a lot of people come to see it. Right now, it’s only scheduled to [show] for a week here, so if people want to see it, they need to get out and see it. And then who knows what will happen after that, but that’s just it; you never know with a film.”

McVey said he worked alongside many talented people while filming.

“The only thing I can say is that it’s a real thrill to work with the folks I’ve had a chance to work with on this film. Some of them I knew before, some of them I didn’t, but all of them are great people. They’re all talented and hard-working, and it shows in the product that they put out.”

A synopsis of the movie is below, provided by Davis:

When drug addict Jason is forced to wear an ankle tracker and serve parole on a run-down ranch, he unexpectedly meets his veteran grandfather, Griff, whom Jason thought was dead. Trapped together, the two men wrestle through their bitterness, as enemies close in to collect a long overdue debt.

“Searching for the Elephant” is rated PG-13 and has a duration of 1 hour and 56 minutes.
