Local young actors featured in “Cabrini” reflect on filmmaking experience

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — It’s not every day you get to see yourself or your friends on the big screen. Children and young adults from across Western New York have that opportunity Thursday, however, two years after the filming of the historic drama “Cabrini”.

Giancarlo Augello, Michael and Samuel Caico, Capri Clark, Angelo Eckert, Rachel Teresi and Ashley Szczerbacki all met on set in the summer of 2021 and created a bond like no other. The long working days as extras and multiple layers of period piece clothing could not deter them from participating in the movie magic. Last week, they got to see the film come to life at the North Park Theater.

“It was kind of surreal I guess, just, you definitely have a different perspective when you see the movie on screen because you see one of the scenes and then you’re like, ‘Wow, that’s the set I was walking in’. It’s just a different perspective and it’s just really, really cool.” said Teresi, who played a featured immigrant in the film.

“I’m so happy with the outcome because I got to see other scenes that I wasn’t there for filming,” said Capri Clark, a featured orphan in “Cabrini”. “It’s a beautiful movie.”

Though some of them had previous acting experience, it was the first time they had all been on a major set. Szczerbacki, who played an Italian immigrant, got to work closer with Cristiana Dell’Anna, the actress who played Mother Cabrini, as her hand double. The experience was unexpected, yet “awesome”.

“Just knowing that a movie was brought here, it just makes it even more special,” Szczerbacki said.

The movie is showing in theaters now across Western New York.
