Give Local York: The York County Food Bank raises money for summer feeding programs

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– The massive annual fundraiser for local nonprofits Give Local York is underway Friday and its coming close to breaking last year’s total raised.

So far over $3.5 million has been raised by Give Local York for its 2024 fundraiser and is on its way to breaking last year’s total of $4.6 million. There are 320 nonprofits involved in the fundraiser, with one of them being the York County Food Bank.

“We are very appreciative of all the donors and donations that have come in so far, it’s really important to us,” Jennifer Brillhart of York County Food Bank said

Brillhart was joined alongside some vegetable mascots, kids dressed in a carrot and pea onesies, to represent “summer feeding because as we move into the summer, so many of our kids are going to go without their breakfast and lunch they would normally get during school,” Brillhart said.

All time is important to the York County Food Bank but during the summer, since kids aren’t in school, they do miss some meals.

“Definitely during the summer and so Give Local helps us to raise money to support the summer feeding programs,” Brillhart said.

Reaching your donation goal is important for organizations but for the York County Food Bank, they also track just how many people donated, something they say is more important to them than the amount they raise.

“We are really more focused on the number of donors so we are hoping to have at least 400 donors that will help us today,” Brillhart said.

And that is what this fundraiser is all about, not giant corporation donations but how many people show up to donate.
