Local woman, who now resides near epicenter, speaks out about massive Taiwan quake

(WJBF) – A massive earthquake in Taiwan left that area in shambles.

It measured 7.4 on the Richter scale, followed by a 6.5 aftershock.

A number of buildings collapsed and many are leaning. At least nine people are known dead and hundreds more injured.

A Swainsboro woman now lives about two hours away from the epicenter.

NewsChannel Six’s Barclay Bishop spoke to her by phone Wednesday morning.

“I had never experienced something so violent, and I was holding on to the door frames and my refrigerator started moving and you know a refrigerator is quite massive. And then the shoe rack started moving and the shoes flipped over, and the picture frames fell. And shoes flew out and the drawers started opening and closing. And this was first thing in the morning and I started praying, I just started praying,” said Alexandra.

Thankfully, her apartment didn’t have any major damage and her two children were at school when it happened. They were able to get outside and everyone stayed safe.
