Local students participate in mini THON fundraiser

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — After Penn State students held another hugely successful “THON” last month, many younger students are now taking part in the fundraising spirit.

Nearly 100 schools in Central Pennsylvania and across the nation are holding “mini thons” this month.

One of these schools, Saint Catherine Laboure Elementary in Harrisburg, held a mini-thon “pep rally” on Tuesday, March 12.

These students are helping to raise tens of millions of dollars this year for the Four Diamonds fund, which helps cover the cost of children’s cancer care.

“Academics is a huge part of school, but there is so much more than academics so it takes time,” Jodi Reagan, Principal of St. Catherine Laboure Elementary said. “And I think the kids get more out of it than just sitting in a classroom just doing their work.”

Harrisburg Diocese Bishop Timothy Senior was also at the event.

“I just think what you see today is the enthusiasm of young people who are just realizing they can make a difference by coming together, have a lot of fun together, but also do a good thing,” he said.

St. Catherine Laboure students raised over $26,000 at the event, setting a new school record.
