Local softball team hits grand slam while serving community

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The Midwest Warriors softball team took a swing at serving their community, with the team hosting a softball clinic for individuals with special needs.

Players say they hope to inspire younger generations to play a sport they love. “We’re a very giving community, I feel like that’s what softball is all about, just giving back,” said Amaya Ronzoni.

“From this sport, I’ve gained so many new friends and I hope that these people are meeting new friends at this program also,” explained Adele Weyenberg.

“I hope they can gain one or more friends; it is always nice to know more people around this town and in the community, so hopefully when we see them walking down the street, we say ‘Hi, hey, I know you,'” stated Ali Gawlik.

Midwest Warrior’s President Tim Edens says the event allows players to bond with the community.

“Not everybody can have the opportunity to play sports so we look to give back and feed the community through programs like this, donating and giving our time back to the community. [There’s no] better way to do that than to host an event like this and have all of my kids come here and give back to the game also,” stated Edens.

The team plans to make the clinic an annual event.
