Basil is a local physician who said it was always her dream to practice in her hometown of Chillicothe. Her private practice, Basil Family Medicine, allows her to care for people of all ages and ailments in her office. She provides routine primary care, osteopathic manipulative medicine, chronic care and more.

"We take care of newborn patients all the way up to elderly patients," said Basil of her clientele.

The award is given yearly to physicians who have been practicing in Ohio for less than five years and demonstrate compassion, leadership and commitment to patient care and community involvement. Basil's practice is only three years old and has locations in Athens, Columbus, Chillicothe and Johnstown.

Presenter Jill Porter, D.O. and Ohio ACOFP President, said Basil has met the challenges of a young physician and has still been able to provide "affordable, transparent health care". She also stated that Basil strives for "excellence as an educator."

Basil said it was a "huge honor" and "totally unexpected" to be nominated for and receive this award.

"I was very grateful to be recognized," said Basil. "I am super grateful to have the opportunity and to be blessed to serve in my hometown community."

Having won this award Basil feels like she now has a better understanding of what she can do, including leadership opportunities to encourage others to get into medicine and provide the best quality patient care. She plans on using this award to push her career forward and continue to make a difference in the lives of others.

"Being recognized kind of opened some doors into potential leadership opportunities to make more of a difference," said Basil.

Basil also notes that she could not have done this alone and she has "immense gratitude" for those who have helped her along the way including family, friends and mentors. She also said her practice would be nowhere near where it is today if it wasn't for her amazing staff who help provide quality care and support to patients.
