ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (WJW) — A man tried to get away with quite a haul of cigarettes in Rocky River.

Police said a delivery truck was parked outside of a convenience store on Hilliard Avenue as the worker was making deliveries.

That’s when another man stole 30 cartons of cigarettes containing 300 packs from the truck, according to police. Police said that’s more than $3,000 worth of cigarettes.

The suspect, a 58-year-old Cleveland man, was arrested the next day, detectives said.

The incident happend April 2nd around noon.

There are numerous reports from around the country of people stealing cartons of cigarettes for illegal resale including a cigarette heist in San Francisco that totaled $80,000 worth of cigarettes.
