Local nonprofit raises thousands for Medical Loan Closet’s new location

JOPLIN, Mo. — Nice job by the ladies with the nonprofit, 100 Women Who Care.

They raised $4,300 for the Medical Loan Closet in Joplin. It’s an organization that connects people to medical supplies insurance may not cover.

And the demand has grown so much that it’s moving to a larger location to better serve clients all over the Four States. Monday’s donation will cover the first four months of rent.

“There is not a lot of space. And trying to…you know, let’s say I need something. Well then to get to it sometimes I’ve got to find the right size. So I’m pulling everything off the shelves to find that medium size or small or whatever,” said Valerie Doerr, 100 Women Who Care Jasper/Newton.

“Any of our larger items have to be stored in a warehouse that we don’t staff on a regular basis, and then the location that we’re at right now is where we keep all of our smaller items. So it can’t just be a one-stop for people, you know? They have to come here and then we have to make an arrangement to meet them at the other location. So this new one will provide everything we have at one location,” said Nicole Watson, Medical Loan Closet of Joplin Director.

The local chapter of 100 Women Who Care formed in April of 2018. Since that time, it’s handed out more than $68,000 to area charities.
