ZANESVILLE — The Muskingum County Engineer's Office has announced that Jackson Road will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday from Boggs Road to East Pike for tree removal.
Maysville BOE to hold special session
ZANESVILLE — The Maysville Local Schools Board of Education will meet in special session at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the administrative center, 3715 Panther Drive. Purpose is to discuss personnel matters including appointment and reemployment of employees.
Alexander gets firefighting honor
COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Commerce's Division of State Fire Marshal and the Ohio Department of Public Safety's Division of EMS recently honored first responders during the 41st annual Ohio Fire Service Hall of Fame and Fire Awards ceremony.
Chief Donald Alexander of the Wayne Township-Duncan Falls Volunteer Fire Department received the Ohio Fire Service Distinguished Service Award.
Straker Writing Awards presented
ZANESVILLE — The first Mary Helen Straker Award in Writing was recently presented to Garrett Buchanan of John Glenn High School. He received $2,000.
Ten schools had juniors submit essays on the theme of returning home to Muskingum County after post-secondary education is complete. The school winners got $500 each.
Keynote speaker for the ceremony was Coach Jim Burson. Master of Ceremonies was Amy Luby of the Muskingum County Community Foundatione. Susan Straker Holdren talked about her mother, Mary Helen Straker, whom the award is named for.
Kinney shares research
MARIETTA — Emily Kinney of Zanesville recently presented undergraduate research at the American Chemical Society's national meeting in San Diego, California. Research was on the effect of heptyl paraben on melanoma cells.
She is majoring in biochemistry and mathematics at Marietta College and graduated from West Muskingum High School.
Triple Nickel Cruise-In returns
STOVERTOWN — The 11th annual Triple Nickel Country Cruise-In will be at 1 p.m. June 18 at the Saint John's Lutheran Church, 6575 Center Road, Stovertown. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m.
The events is open to cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors and other vehicles. Dash plaques and goody bags will be given to registered vehicles while supplies last. There will also be 50/50 drawings at 3 and 5 p.m., item raffle, kids pedal pull at 3 p.m. and homemade food and ice cream.
Bring a chair and canopy for sitting outside. Proceeds will benefit Stovertown PRAYER Company Youth and Family Group to stage other family-friendly, free community events. Election letters deadline set
ZANESVILLE — The Zanesville Times Recorder will accept letters to the editor relating to any candidates and issues pertaining to the May 3 primary election until April 19.
Letters are to be no more than 350 words. Letters must include the writer's full name and city of residence. A phone number must be provided for verification purposes only. Once approved for publication, letters must be confirmed.
Only one letter per election cycle is allowed for an elected official or candidate for elective office. Other writers are permitted one letter every 30 days from the date of publication.
Letters can be emailed to trnews@zanesvilletimesrecorder.com in a copy and paste format. Letters must be exclusive to the Time Recorder and come from a resident of the paper's direct coverage area.
New physician joins Genesis
ZANESVILLE — Dr. Getachew Zelenke has joined Genesis Heart and Vascular Group, specializing in adult cardiovascular disease.
He has a doctorate of medicine from the Jimma Institute of Health Sciences in Jimma, Ethiopia. He completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in adult cardiovascular disease at Marshall University, Joan Edwards School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia. Zeleke is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and echocardiography and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Rich Hill Trustees to meet
CHANDLERSVILLE — Rich Hill Township Trustees will meet at 8 p.m. Monday at the township hall, 3640 Herron Road, Chandlersville.
