Local law enforcement agencies to commemorate fallen peace officers

Local law enforcement agencies will host several events in coming days in honor of fallen officers for National Police Week.

The Bakersfield Police Department will host a Boots and Brew Country Music Festival from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at 1933 Prohibition Event Center to honor late Officer David Nelson. The event will include live music, line dancing and more. The event is open to the public and all proceeds go toward the Officer David Nelson Memorial Scholarship fund.

BPD will also host a memorial ceremony at 7 a.m. Thursday, May 16 at BPD headquarters, 1601 Truxtun Ave.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office will host a peace officer memorial ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16 at KCSO headquarters, 1350 Norris Road.
