Local Korean War POW laid to rest after 73 years

PRINCETON (WVNS) – After over half a century, one soldier is finally being laid to rest.

Corporal Ray Kirby Lilly also known as ‘Kirby’ was born on January 19th, 1933. Kirby enlisted into the Army at the age of 17 and was a prisoner of war.

A service was held on Saturday, May 18th at the Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton

Andi Fleming, Niece of Corporal Lilly, said this service brings closure to her and her family.

“Oh my goodness. We’re just honored. We’re honored to know the end of the story. There was so much my grandparents didn’t know. He left home when he was 17 to join the military,” said Fleming to 59News.

Fleming said she and her family feel very blessed. She said the day is somber but also joyful to know the full story.
