Local high school bowlers prepare for states

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – This weekend, local high school bowlers have a shot a state title.

High school bowlers from around the Twin Tiers will compete for a NYSPHSAA championship, this weekend. On the boys side, Corning and Waverly will head to AMF Strike N Spare Lanes in Syracuse in hopes of winning a state team title. The STAC Champion Hawks will look to win their first state crown ever, following dominant showing in Division 1 qualifiers. In Division 2, the Wolverines will also battle for their first state title, following an 86-point win over runners-up Owego, 2 weeks ago.

Aside from the team competition; Elmira, Candor, and other regional teams will send individual standouts to Syracuse. One year after their boys team won a state team title, Elmira’s championship hopes rest on the shoulders of 3 solo bowlers. On the girls side, the Express qualifiers are Abbi Hink and Madison Smith. Aside from the Elmira, Candor’s Kaitlyn Floyd will also represent Section IV, while vying for a state crown.

The NYSPHSAA Bowling Championships will take place this weekend, at AMF Strike N Spare Lanes in Syracuse.
