Local businesses raise funds, awareness for World Down Syndrome Day

Two Wichita Falls businesses teamed up to raise funds, and awareness, for World Down Syndrome Day.

Employees of both Midwest Dental Equipment & Supply and Empire Paper held a fundraiser walk/run Friday, due to the inclement weather March 21.

World Down Syndrome Day is on March 21 (3/21) each year and is dedicated to individuals with Down Syndrome.

Trisomy 21 is the clinical term for Down Syndrome, which is when there is a third copy of the 21st chromosome.

Throughout the day, Midwest and Empire had 57 participants in the walk and run and they raised $1,445 for the North Texas Special Olympics.

Representatives and members of the North Texas Special Olympics participated in the walk/run and other activities that day.
