Local businesses prepare 1 month before solar eclipse

AVON LAKE, Ohio (WJW) — One month from now we’ll all be saying that the total solar eclipse was one really great sight.

But many people are also hoping that they’ll be able to say it was great for business.

In Lorain County in particular, the whole eclipse experience will be a busy time for just about every business.

Owner of Nautical Lanes Jim Spevock said a lot of business owners don’t know what exactly to expect.

With thousands of people projected to spend the weekend in and around Avon Lake, they’re hoping that lot of people will look for some indoor fun as well.

“Based on the hype, we’re expecting higher than average, but it’s very tough to plan for something that’s never happened in our community before,” Spevock said.

Black River Landing in Lorraine is also going to have a big party on eclipse day.

With hundreds of acres of open space in a nice setting, they are expecting, and hoping, for a big crowd.

“People are familiar with it, they know to come here. We’ve got out-of-town people calling. We’re gonna put on a nice show,” River said.

Tom Brown with the Lorain County Port Authority said they are used to having thousands of people come to their mini summer concerts and festivals.

They hope the weather will allow them to bring more people to the riverfront during what is usually a slow time.
