Livingston Parish officials to get Killian water system findings report Monday

KILLIAN, La. (BRPROUD) — Livingston Parish government officials gave an update Sunday, May 5 about what Killian residents can expect after well testing amid a water crisis.

An emergency declaration was issued Tuesday, April 23 after a water system failure in the town. A boil advisory has been in place since.

“During the inspection process, preliminary findings, and continuation of testing required us to bring in continuous water tankers to supply the town residents water,” officials said in a Sunday, May 5 update on social media.

The well head, piping, casing, filter screen, ground storage tank and well equipment were tested. Officials said multiple findings of the ground storage tank require further remediation efforts after inspection.

Officials said a findings report is expected to be provided on Monday, May 6.

What residents need to know

The town of Killian’s water well is being prepped to go back online and residents may experience low water pressure. Residents are asked to call the Killian Town Hall or elected officials if they continue to experience low pressure, water discoloration or sediment in the water.

Local leaders said new flush points are being installed and lines will continue to be flushed.

Samples will taken on Monday for the boil water advisory. Officials said samples will have an 18-hour turnaround before results become available.

“Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this difficult time,” parish officials said. “By close of business tomorrow, May 6, there will be a clear plan moving forward. Parish President Randy Delatte and Mayor Ronald Sharp Sr. have been working tirelessly to resolve the water issues plaguing the Town of Killian, and will continue to do so through various avenues to secure funding needed.”
