Live updates: Penn State takes team title at the 2024 Big Ten Wrestling Championships

Penn State wrestling successfully defended the Big Ten conference crown on Sunday, following a weekend of wrestling in College Park, Md.

It’s the team’s eighth Big Ten championship under head coach Cael Sanderson.

End of Day 2 update: Penn State won the crown Sunday evening with 170.5 points, 47 points more than second place Michigan. The Nittany Lions’ title came with five individual champions, with Braeden Davis (125 pounds), Levi Haines (157 pounds), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165 pounds), Aaron Brooks (197 pounds) and Greg Kerkvliet (285 pounds) all winning titles.

Day 2 first session update: Penn State’s Tyler Kasak and Aaron Nagao each rebounded from their Saturday night semifinals losses to reach the consolation finals at their respective weights. The Nittany Lions have seven others looking for Big Ten gold medals with all action slated to start at 4:30 p.m.

End of Day 1 update: Penn State has a total of seven Big Ten finalists, which is a school record. The Nittany Lions lead the team race by 20.5 points over Michigan.

Day 1 first session update: Penn State sent nine wrestlers to the semifinals, with the lone exception being Carter Starocci at 174 pounds. Starocci intentionally injury-defaulted in his opening match, meaning he’ll still qualify for nationals.
