Representatives from Cuyahoga County, Destination Cleveland, the Cleveland Metroparks, and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History were at the museum to speak about the exciting plans for April 8, as well as the science of the solar eclipse itself.

Northeast Ohio is right in the path of totality, meaning the moon will completely cover up the sun for about three minutes. The rare phenomenon is expected to last only a few minutes but the area is anticipating an infiltration of out-of-town guests.

“This is the place to be. That’s our message today,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayn during the press conference Monday.

Many schools have canceled classes for the day, area hospitals are preparing for unforeseen challenges, and emergency services are bracing for a potential strain on services.

According to Ronayn, if you do just one thing to prepare for the event — make sure you have safety glasses. CLICK HERE for a list of local locations where you can find the special glasses.
