2 incumbents remain on Fort Worth school board; one race heads to runoff

Fort Worth school board incumbents Tobi Jackson and Quinton “Q” Phillips were reelected on Saturday while the the race for the District 5 seat is headed to a runoff.

Jackson, the board president, won with 68.21% of the vote in District 2. Her challenger Pat Carlson had 31.79%, according to unofficial voting results. Jackson is the executive director of Fort Worth SPARC.

Phillips kept his District 3 seat with 54.86% of the vote. His challenger Mar’Tayshia James had 23.74%, and Valeria Nevarez had 21.4%. Phillips is a professor of criminal justice at TCU.

In District 5, Kevin Lynch and incumbent CJ Evans are headed to a runoff because no candidate received more than 50% of the vote. Lynch received 45.5%, Evans had 31.61%, and Josh Yoder had 22.9%.

“I appreciate everybody getting out and just ask that everyone continue to pay attention. We’re going to need everyone to get out and share their voice once again in the runoff,” said Lynch.
