LIVE BLOG: Voting issue fixed, low wait times on primary election day in Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) — It’s Election Day in Texas for the presidential and state primaries. On Tuesday, voters will choose which candidates will represent the Democratic and Republican parties on the ballot in November’s general election.

More than 17.9 million Texans are currently registered to vote, according to the Secretary of State’s office.

After early voting, more than 1.8 million votes have been cast, for a statewide turnout of 10.16%. Of all votes, about 67% have been in the Republican primary, while 33% have been in the Democratic primary.

Polls close at 7 p.m. in Texas. This live blog will be updated with new Election Day information.

12:15 p.m.

There have been nearly 94,000 ballots cast in Travis County, including early voting numbers, resulting in a turnout of 10.52%.

Lakeway Activity Center, located at 105 Cross Creek in Lakeway, is showing as the only polling location with a wait longer than 51 minutes, according to the Travis County Clerk’s webpage.

11:15 a.m.

A data issue affected about 1% of registered voters Tuesday morning, the Travis County clerk told KXAN.

Voters with an issue were either asked to wait until a fix was put in place or given the option to vote provisionally.

“Our team quickly identified the issue and pushed out a solution,” the office said.

The problem was fixed by 10:30 a.m., the clerk’s office said.

11 a.m.

As of 11 a.m., Christ Episcopal Church, located at 3520 W Whitestone Blvd in Cedar Park, was the only voting location with a 21-50 minute wait. All other policing locations were between zero and 20 minutes.

As of 11:05 a.m., the unofficial turnout tracker showed 17,680 people had cast their ballot.

10:50 a.m.

There have been more than 85,000 ballots cast in Travis County, including early voting numbers, resulting in a turnout of 9.56%.

10: 35 a.m.

Nearly 15,000 people have cast their ballot since polls opened at 7 a.m.

10:10 a.m.

An unofficial turnout tracker shows 12,835 people have cast their ballot so far on election day.

Two polling locations have shown a wait of between 21 and 50 minutes. The locations were Lago Vista High School and Ce Bar Fire Department.

10:07 a.m.

The Travis County Clerk said more than 12,000 people have voted in person on Election Day.

“The polls are open until 7 p.m. and voters can vote at any of the 148 locations in the county,” the Travis County Clerk posted on social media.

9:50 a.m.

The average wait time for poling locations is between zero and 20 minutes, according to the Travis County Clerk’s webpage.

9:20 a.m.

An unofficial turnout tracker shows that, so far, on election day in Travis County, 8,632 people have cast their ballot.

7 a.m.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and welcomed voters for the March 5 Primary Elections.
