Little Rock woman reacts to arrest made in connection with loved one’s 2023 death
LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- One family is relieved after the Little Rock police said they arrested a person in connection with the 2023 death of 26-year-old Eligiah Lucas..
Police said 24-year-old Harris Martin was arrested in connection with a shooting that took Lucas’ life. Lucas’ aunt Sonya Bell described her feelings when Lucas was killed.
“That news hit so hard to where it was like I had lost all function,” Bell explained.

She said she raised Lucas in the same home as her children, saying her house was his home, adding, “He was here every day.”
Bell said Lucas had been at her home before going to the store, and while she was there resting, she said a knock at her door changed everything.
“It’s like I already knew,” Bell said.

Lucas was shot and killed on July 29, 2023, at the EZ Market near Rainwood Road.
Police said they initially questioned Martin in connection with the incident but he was released with no charges. Now nearly a year later authorities said he’s been arrested and is facing a charge of manslaughter.
“From the time it happened up until now, I’ve finally had a chance to smile again,” Bell said.

She said with Martin’s arrest, now she’s finding peace.
“I cried my last tears and I’m choosing to forgive him because if I don’t forgive him, he has that power over me to orchestrate how I feel,” Bell said.
