Little Girl Lays Down Flowers at Site of School Bus Crash That Killed 2
A little girl carried a bouquet of flowers to a New Jersey middle school after a student and teacher there were killed in a horrific crash Thursday.
The bus was carrying fifth-graders from the East Brook Middle School in Paramus when a collision with a dump truck violently ripped it from its chassis, authorities say.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said there were 38 students and seven adults on the bus at the time of the crash, according to CBS New York.
In addition to the student and a teacher who were killed, 43 people on the bus were transported to area hospitals. The driver of the dump truck was also injured and hospitalized.
"Some patients are in critical condition and currently undergoing surgery, so please keep everybody in your prayers,” Murphy said.
At the spot where the little girl honored the victims with flowers, candles and notes of sympathy were already in place after families rushed to claim their children at East Brook Middle.
"Make sure that when you leave here today, for those of you that have loved ones, you go home and you say how much you love them and give them a kiss, because there are people that, tonight, are struggling to be able to do that, and in some cases not able to," said Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco.
