Lithuania to provide Ukraine with equipment for thermal power plants

Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko has discussed assistance to the Ukrainian energy sector with Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys. Lithuania is ready to provide equipment for the reconstruction and repair of power facilities.

Details: "The Minister of Energy briefed his counterpart on the consequences of recent Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector. In turn, Dainius Kreivys stressed that Lithuania is ready to support Ukraine and send equipment that will help carry out reconstruction and repair work," the statement said.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to arrange a visit by a group of Ukrainian power engineers to Lithuania. Specialists from the public and private sectors will visit a number of Lithuanian energy facilities to verify the equipment to be sent to Ukraine.

Background:

  • DTEK Group, the largest private energy company in Ukraine, has lost 80% of its power generation capacity following Russia's large-scale attacks on 22 and 29 March.

  • Earlier, the CEO of distribution company Yasno said that DTEK Group had lost about half of its generating capacity as a result of the large-scale Russian attack on the Ukrainian power grid on 22 March.
