LIST: Southeast Louisiana schools to close due to Wednesday severe weather

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — With severe weather expected to impact our area on Wednesday, April 10, some Southeast Louisiana schools have announced closures.

Wednesday at the Square postponed due to severe weather threat

Jefferson Parish

  • Jefferson Parish Public Schools announced that due to Wednesday’s Flash Flood Emergency, schools will have a delayed dismissal. Students will be kept at school for the time being. Students who walk home will remain at school and they will need to be accompanied home once the dismissal process begins.

St. James Parish

  • Officials with the St. James Parish School System announced schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the enhanced risk of high winds, tornadoes, hail and flash flooding. They said parents should monitor the St. James Parish School System website and social media for updates.

Plaquemines Parish

  • Belle Chasse Academy will be closed Wednesday, April 10, ahead of severe weather. School officials said classes are expected to resume on Thursday, April 11.

St. Tammany Parish

  • Officials with the St. Tammany Parish Public School System announced that all St. Tammany Parish Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the threat of severe weather in the area.

Washington Parish

  • Officials with the Washington Parish School System announced schools will hold virtual classes on Wednesday, April 10, due to expected severe weather.

  • Bogalusa City Schools will also be closed on Wednesday, April 10, for severe weather, according to the Bogalusa City Schools website.

Orleans Parish

  • Officials with International Highs School of New Orleans announced the school will be closed for all grade levels nine through 12 on Wednesday, April 10, due to expected severe weather.

  • Southern University of New Orleans announced its campus will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to expected severe weather conditions.

  • All three Community Academy of New Orleans Schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 10 due to the possible severe weather, according to officials with CANO. The schools are Esperanza Academy, Foundation Preparatory Academy, Lafayette Academy at Leah Chase Building.

  • Xavier University of Louisiana has announced that remote learning will occur on Wednesday, April 10 due to anticipated severe weather.

  • Algiers Charter School Association officials announced Martin Behrman Charter School and L. B. Landry High School will close Wednesday, April 10 due to the inclement weather forecast.

  • Officials with Ben Franklin Elementary/Middle Mathematics & Science School announced both elementary and middle school campuses will be closed on Wednesday, April 10 due to expected inclement weather.

  • Einstein Charter Schools officials announced Sarah T. Reed, Einstein Middle School, Village de L’Est Elementary and Sherwood Forest Elementary schools will be close on Wednesday, April 10 due to expected inclement weather.

  • Delgado Community College officials announced that most campuses and sites will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to potentially severe weather. The exception being the Maritime and Industrial Training Center, which will operate normally.

  • Bricolage Academy officials announced the school will be closed Wednesday, April 10, due to the threat of severe weather.

  • Hynes Charter Schools will be closed Wednesday, April 10 due to weather, according to Hynes Charter Schools officials.

  • Morris Jeff Community School (Elementary, Middle and High) will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, according to the Greater New Orleans Collaborative of Charter Schools.

  • New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School “Sci High” officials have announced the school will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to expected inclement weather.

  • Dillard University officials announced that the campus will transition to virtual classes and remote work in response to the inclement weather.

  • The University of New Orleans will switch to virtual classes on Wednesday, April 10. No classes will be held in person. Only essential personnel should report to work.

Tangipahoa Parish

  • Tangipahoa Parish officials announced that all schools and offices in the district will be closed for expected severe weather on Wednesday, April 10.

  • Southeastern Louisiana University officials announced the school will hold remote work and classes on Wednesday, April 10, due to expected severe weather.

Pearl River County

  • Pearl River County schools in the Pearly River County School District will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to expected severe weather.

Hancock County

  • Officials with the Hancock County School District announced schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to expected severe weather.
