Lions Maul Suspected Lion Poacher to Death in South Africa

A suspected lion poacher was mauled to death by a group of lions outside South Africa’s famed Kruger National Park, in what some are sure to call an act of karma.

According to USA Today, the suspected poacher’s remains were found near the park over the weekend. The body was almost completely eaten by animals by the time it was discovered.

Local police believe the victim was a poacher because a rifle and ammunition were found near the body.

“It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions. They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains,” police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe said in a statement.

The police are currently working with the Home Affairs Department to uncover the dead man’s identity. Initially, news reports posited that the victim was a local farmer stranded in the area after his tractor broke down.

That farmer has since been found alive. His tractor did break down, but he was able to make it back home unharmed.
