Lions defense gets caught with only 9 men on the field
No one in the NFL is going to accuse the Detroit Lions of having the best defense in the league, so you can’t blame them for trying to add a few new wrinkles to their game plan.
That being said, it’s probably a good idea to use all of the players allotted when trying to stop another team from scoring. The Lions, unfortunately, did not follow that advice vs. the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
On third-and-seven near the red zone early in the fourth quarter, Detroit lined up with only nine defenders on the field and you won’t believe what happened next.

Actually, you will.
The Lions gave up a 23-yard pass to Baltimore’s Chris Moore and allowed a touchdown two plays later to go down 27-13.
Thanks to the failed demolition of the Silverdome, this ranks only as the second-worst implosion for Detroit on Sunday.
