Line of Duty star Brian McCardie has died at the age of 59.

News of McCardie's death was announced by his sister Sarah McCardie, who shared a statement on her Instagram.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie (59), beloved son, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many," read the post's caption, alongside various shots of her late sibling.

"Brian passed away suddenly at home on Sunday 28th April. A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon.

United Agents, who represented McCardie, also shared a statement on social media, reacting to the news of his passing.

"We are shocked and so deeply saddened by the tragic news of Brian McCardie's sudden death," they wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "He was an actor of such great talent who we were lucky to represent, and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this difficult time."

Just this month, it was announced that McCardie had been cast in the Outlander prequel Blood of My Blood. The actor was set to play Isaac Grant, the leader of Clan Grant.

Production on the Starz prequel is currently underway in Scotland, though it's unclear if McCardie will now feature in the series.

The Line of Duty actor also made a brief appearance in the original series back in season one, appearing as Sir Marcus MacRannoch.
