DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Several customers across Danville are waking up in the dark after lightning hit a substation transformer on Tuesday night.

Just before 10 p.m. on April 30, Danville Utilities said the transformer was inoperable. Since then, crews have been working to restore service for customers in the Brosville and Stony Mill areas by switching them to the Westover and Tunstall substations.

However, this could take hours.

The power company says customers in the Axton and Cascade areas will remain without service for most of Wednesday until crews can bring a mobile substation and make connections.
