Lightning strikes cause fires at two Charlotte residences: CFD

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Lightning strikes caused fires at two Charlotte homes during Wednesday evening’s severe weather, the Charlotte Fire Department said Thursday.

The first incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. at a home on Churchill Road in the Wendover community. The fire was contained by 30 firefighters within 28 minutes with no injuries being reported. Investigators determined the incident was due to lightning strikes and resulted in about $105,000 in damages.

Fire crews responded to calls regarding the second incident around 6:07 p.m. at a residence near 900 Westbrook Drive, just north of Uptown. The fire was contained by 30 firefighters within 34 minutes with no injuries reported. Investigators later determined the incident was due to a lightning strike, which resulted in about $120,000 in damages.
