Lightning strikes as ash spews from Philippine volcano
Residents living in areas around a rumbling volcano in the Philippines captured the moment lighting struck near large clouds of smoke on Sunday (January 12).
The huge cloud of ash could be seen from Trece Martires, more than 40 km north of the volcano, another amateur video filmed on Sunday showed.
A thick layer of ash was seen covering buildings, roads and trees in Batangas Province in the Philippines as a rumbling volcano spewed ash on Monday (January 13).
Drone footage published on social media on Monday showed the ashfall in the municipality of Calaca, which lies around 15km west of Taal volcano.
Taal volcano, one of the world's smallest active volcanoes, have been spewing ash for a second day from its crater in the middle of a lake about 70 km (45 miles) south of the capital Manila.
Volcanic lightning only forms in a volcanic plume, the cylinder-shaped column of volcanic ash emitted by some erupting volcanoes, according to the National Geographic.
