Lightning strike causes fire at northeast Austin residence

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A lightning strike caused a fire at a northeast Austin residence Friday morning, according to the Austin Fire Department.

At 6:16 a.m., AFD said crews responded to a structure fire in the 11800 block of Gaelic Drive.

According to AFD, the roof of the residence was on fire from the lightning strike, but crews extinguished the roof fire and began checking for fire extension into the attic.

At 6:32 a.m., AFD the fire confined to the chimney was now under control, and fire crews were working on salvage operations to protect property inside the home.

All occupants at the residence were evacuated, according to AFD.
