Ligety doesn't finish 2nd run of Olympic slalom

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) — After failing to finish the Olympic slalom's second leg, giant slalom gold medalist Ted Ligety called the course set Saturday night "borderline unsportsmanlike."

Ligety was sixth-fastest in the opening run of the slalom, the last Alpine race of the Sochi Games. But he slid on his side and dropped out of the finishing run less than halfway through.

He was hardly alone: Five of the last eight racers didn't finish. That helped Mario Matt of Austria hold onto a first-run lead to become the oldest Alpine champion in Olympic history.

Ligety, though, called his result "not that big of a bummer," considering that he wasn't among the favorites in the slalom and already had won a gold in his specialty.
