The Arizona Humane Society rescued a 2-year-old Weimaraner mix after she got stuck in the engine bay of a classic Chevy Nova earlier in January. The 49-pound dog was chasing a cat when it ended up wedged in the car. It took medical technicians about 15 minutes to free the young dog. Other than a couple of small cuts on her ears, she was unharmed, according to azcentral.com.

The dog rescue took place on January 19 near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road in Phoenix. The Arizona Humane Society received a call from a woman who spotted a foot and tail hanging out the bottom of the classic Chevy. Workers took their time to ensure they would not injure the dog’s limbs during the rescue. The pup was understandably nervous and a bit nippy during the extraction. However, once she was freed she wagged her tail and thanked all her rescuers with dog kisses.

Stories of cats getting stuck in various car parts are fairly common. And we have all heard far too many stories of mice and other little critters getting in the engine bay of a classic car and chewing through the wires. But a nearly 50-pound dog getting stuck in a car is a rare occurrence. The Humane Society's director of field operations Tracey Miller said this was the first such case in decades, according to azcentral.

The pup was transported to the Humane Society's trauma hospital and treated for minor cuts on her ears. She was determined to be otherwise healthy and a couple of days later received her spay surgery to get her ready for adoption. The Humane Society named the rescued pup Nova. Naturally.

Nova is available for adoption right now at the Arizona Humane Society. The adoption fee is just $49. A small price to pay for a car-loving companion. Just keep an eye on her if you happen to be restoring any classic Chevys.
