Meghan Markle made a special visit to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles recently, and the footage is too cute. The Duchess of Sussex went all out for storytime, reading three beloved children’s books to the patients and helping them with related STEAM activities. She also took sweet photos with the kids, and even though everyone was wearing masks, you could tell there were huge smiles underneath.

“Children were laughing and singing as The Duchess turned into character with every page as she read patient favorite books,” said a statement that named three of the books, misnaming two. According to the statement, she read “Rosie the Riveter,” Pete the Cat, and “I Saw a Cat.” But, along with a Pete the Cat book, Markle read Rosie Revere, Engineer and They All Saw a Cat, per this video.
Nevertheless! The mom of two took storytime very seriously, doing silly voices and prompting the kids with questions and hand motions throughout. We have to imagine she does the same at home with her kids Prince Archie, 4 and Princess Lilibet, 2 who she shares with husband Prince Harry. The young royals must have so much fun when their actress mom reads them bedtime stories!

If you’re a fan of Pete the Cat, you know the story of his four groovy buttons is one of many. The Duchess told the kids this was a “great” choice and got super into it — even singing the groovy buttons song! Apologies to anyone who is familiar to the tune and will now have it stuck in their head all day. I’m in the same boat!

“This is one of my favorites,” Markle said before launching into Rosie Revere, Engineer. It’s the story of a young inventor who gets discouraged when her latest project is a flop. But have no fear, her Great Great Aunt Rose (who seems an awful lot like Rosie the Riveter!) is there to remind her of the importance of perseverance.

Markle also delighted the crowd with a rousing rendition of They All Saw a Cat, a touching story about curiosity and perspective that has nearly 3 thousand glowing reviews on Amazon and more than triple that on Goodreads.
“…This book has an ingenious way of teaching perspective, that even my 3- and 4-year-old can understand,” a parent wrote. “…It is so easy to get completely wrapped up in this book with your kids, I love the story and the illustrations just as much as they do, and I enjoy having a teaching prop that helps me to explain complex topics in a way that they can understand.”
Even royal kiddos love to be read to! Here are some of their favorites.
