Google's Pi Day Map Reveals the Most Popular Pies in Every State

Did you know that there's a day dedicated to pie? Or should we say Pi!

March 14th marks the annual Pi Day, a day dedicated to honoring the mathematical constant pi or π (aka 3.14). The day is also just a great excuse to bake up your favorite pie recipe! So it's no wonder the folks over at Google used Pi Day as an opportunity to discover which pies people are searching for the most across the country.

The results are likely easier to understand than the concept of Pi itself! 😂 In fact, Google created an easy-to-read map that shows the most searched pies in every state for 2024. (That includes both sweet and savory pies.)

Let's break it down: In the month before Pi Day 2024, people across the country were seeking out savory pie recipes more than any other type of pie. (That includes Frito chili pie in Ree Drummond's home state of Oklahoma.) But coming in at a close second was custard pies, followed by fruit pies, chocolate pies, or nutty pies.

Among the states that searched for custard pies, you'll see springtime pies like lemon meringue pie in North Dakota and Vermont, along with lemon icebox pie in Arkansas and Mississippi. But there are other custard pies, too. Coconut cream pie was a popular search in Nebraska and West Virginia and strawberry cream pie held its own in Illinois.

Speaking of fruit, the most searched fruit pie was apple pie in four states, all along the western half of the country (California, Oregon, Nevada, and Wyoming). Raspberry Pie was a top contender for New Yorkers and Blueberry Pie took home the prize in Colorado.

And while Ladd Drummond's favorite chocolate pie didn't make the map, you'll see other pie recipes like Oreo pie in Ohio and Georgia, French silk pie in Iowa, honey pie in Wisconsin, and fried pie in Arizona.

Still thinking about those savory pies? Chicken pot pie was the most searched pie in Texas and Alaska, while you'll see shepherd's pie in Massachusetts, spaghetti pie in Minnesota, and tomato pie in South Carolina and New Jersey.
