Costco is our go-to source for great deals on bulk goods, surprisingly good kitchenware steals, and the cheapest rotisserie chicken you can find available today. But, all of that is changing with a new kind of Costco store opening in Anchorage, Alaska. The wholesale club recently revealed that it’s opening a new showroom dedicated to appliances and furniture.

Costco Is Opening a New Showroom for Furniture and Appliances

This isn’t the wholesale club’s first unique showroom. In February, Costco also opened a business center warehouse in Anchorage that’s intended to serve businesses (though any member can still shop there). And there’s an appliance and furniture showroom in San Juan, Puerto Rico, also run by Costco.

A Costco director of real estate development at the company’s headquarters in Issaquah, Washington, Christian Lasley, told the Anchorage Daily News that the news warehouse "will give Alaskans a chance to see firsthand what they can buy for shipment.” They can see the products in person at the warehouse, then have them shipped to their home. Lasley told the outlet, “We’re doing this to meet the needs of our members.”

The new Costco showroom does not yet have an opening date, as there are still permits pending. Costco purchased the site in 2019, and it’s currently used as a distribution center. (Costco has four standard Costco warehouses throughout the state.)

The news is welcomed in the area, especially because oversized appliances and furniture are costly there. In a Reddit thread, commenters said, “This is the best news in a long time!” and, “We've been longing for an Ikea for decades. Leave it to Costco to step up.”
