Community invited to celebrate grand opening of revamped Chain of Rocks Park

RIVERVIEW, Mo – The community is invited to celebrate the opening of the new 16-acre Chain of Rocks Park on the Missouri side of the river. The grand opening is scheduled for Sunday, April 14.

This project, spearheaded by Great Rivers Greenway, has revitalized the park, introducing picnic areas, a new event lawn, a designated food truck area, portable restrooms, and drinking fountains for daily use.

In addition, the park now has a newly constructed 1.5-acre prairie landscape, restored wetlands and woodlands habitats, and a rain garden. Enhanced security features, including cameras and lighting in the parking lot, have also been installed.

The free event will feature music by the Saint Boogie Brass Band, food offerings from Falafel Saha and Destination Desserts food trucks, and activities suitable for all ages.

The festivities kick off at 1 p.m. with an eight-mile group bike ride starting from Chouteau Island Trailhead, followed by zone marking led by Simiya Sudduth, who has also contributed artwork to the Chain of Rocks Park.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Care STL will showcase adoptable dogs, and a photo booth will be available for attendees. Yoga Buzz will host sessions, and there will be a guided tour of the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge by the Missouri History Museum.

Funding for the park came from a combination of local sales tax revenue, federal grants, and donations to the Great Rivers Greenway Foundation. Additionally, the project received a $990,000 grant from the National Park Service through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program.
