‘A Life Interrupted’: New program from BPD educates students on impaired driving

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department is providing education on impaired driving through the program “A Life Interrupted.”

According to BPD, the program is geared toward high school aged students and above and provides a presentation where students learn details leading up to deadly collisions.

During the presentation, students are given the opportunity to wear “Fatal Vision goggles” which simulate the physical effects of being under the influence while in a safe and learning environment.

“Driving under the influence and crashing into somebody and killing them is not an accident – it’s 100% preventable,” said Lt. Joseph Galland, a traffic commander with BPD.

The “A Life Interrupted” presentation is free and lasts about 1 hour. Any organization interested in having the program presented can contact BPD at 326-3938.
