Licensed Real Estate Broker Tony Mattar discusses how realtor commissions could change after legal settlement

CHICAGO — The nation’s largest association of realtors is about to change the way Americans buy and sell homes.

The National Association of Realtors has agreed to pay $418 million to settle lawsuits over realtor commissions.

In the past, the seller’s realtor split a set commission with the buyer’s agent. However, the new rule will allow home buyers to negotiate their own agent fees, and that could drive down commission rates.

Tony Mattar, the founder of the Crib team at Compass joined WGN-TV on Friday to discuss the settlement and what it could mean for home purchases moving forward.
