New license plates for LSU women’s basketball championship win
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — LSU women’s basketball national champion license plates are now available in Louisiana.
According to the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles, license plates in honor of the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team winning the national championship in 2023 are now available for purchase. The Tigers beat the Iowa Hawkeyes, 102-85.
In August 2023 during the national championship celebration, former Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a bill to make new license plates for the Lady Tigers win.
“We are excited to offer this specialty plate as that team truly represents the grit and winning spirit of the great citizens of Louisiana,” OMV Commissioner Dan Casey stated.
New LSU arena proposal approved by Metro Council
OMV staff gave LSU head coach Kim Mulkey and the LSU women’s basketball team the first national championship plate Thursday morning.
“It’s awesome. It’s just a reminder every day when you walk to your car of what we did. It’s also a reminder of how much our program is valued,” Mulkey said.
Fans can buy the 2023 LSU women’s basketball national championship plate by visiting the OMV website and contacting the OMV’s Specialized Vehicle Unit at 225-925-6278 or 225-925-6146 or scheduling an appointment at the OMV Specialized Vehicle Unit on Independence Boulevard in Baton Rouge.
