Liberty PD mourns loss of campus officer and long-tenured LPD police sergeant

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Liberty University is saddened to announce the passing of campus officer Sergeant Glenn Anderson, who died on April 19.

Liberty University Security and Public Safety says Sgt. Anderson passed after a battle with cancer surrounded by his family and friends.

Sgt. Anderson dedicated over two decades of his life to serving the community. He spent 26 years with the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) before coming to Liberty in 2022.

He joined the LPD in July of 1995 and throughout his career, the department said he “exemplified the highest standards of professionalism and dedication to duty.”

He served a patrol officer, school resource office, and detective. Anderson continued to work his way up the ranks and became a Sergeant.

He took on this role for several years before he retired in April 2021.

Our thoughts are with Glenn’s family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time. As we mourn the loss of Sergeant Anderson, we extend our deepest condolences to all who had the privilege of knowing him, We honor Sergeant Glenn Anderson’s memory and his contributions to the LPD and the Lynchburg community. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy of dedication, commitment, and excellence will continue to inspire us all.
