Lexington high school evacuates after police receive anonymous bomb threat

Lafayette High School has been evacuated after the Lexington Police Department received an anonymous bomb threat Monday, according to Fayette County Public Schools.

The threat came in sometime before noon. FCPS spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith said students and staff were evacuated to the football field and followed safety procedures.

The School for Creative and Performance Arts located next to Lafayette High School was also evacuated around 1 p.m., according to Davidson-Smith.

“The Hazardous Device Team has been requested to provide bomb sniffing dogs. The FBI and other law enforcement partners are helping with this investigation,” Davidson-Smith said.

Davidson-Smith said everyone is safe and parents/guardians are encouraged to not go to the school. People who do come to campus should stay in their vehicles in the staging area of Southport Drive.

An active investigation is ongoing.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
