Who’s the real hypocrite?

Hypocrisy is the Ohio GOP’s issue.

Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman had the audacity to accuse people who are trying to keep the rights of majority voters to have a say in the laws of this state.

Ohio Senate president: ’The rabid opposition to State Issue 1 is the height of hypocrisy’

Here is the list of just a few of the items they have done recently that are extremely hypocritical.

The electorate of Ohio voted overwhelmingly to have fair balanced voting districts.

  • The GOP answer was to just ignore this and keep the status quo. The Ohio Supreme Court ruled time and again that they needed to fix this problem.  Their next step was to make sure a new justice elected was of their choosing to keep things the way they are.

  • They created a law that there could be no more special August elections, most likely to keep public schools from sneaking in a passed levy as a result of lower voter  turnout in August.

  • They violated their own law to create a special August election in an attempt to get a supermajority requirement to keep abortion illegal in the state. This is due to the fact that polling shows 59% of voters believe abortion should be legal to some extent. They are aware that the abortion issue would most likely pass in November.

I have little doubt that they will not follow the wishes of the majority to allow abortion clinics to continue to operate.  After all, they did not create the voting districts that voters wanted. They will simply have the audacity to follow the playbook of Donald Trump and just ignore the law.

They are a wannabe dictatorship and Huffman is among the worst elected officials in this state.

God help Ohio.

Help me understand

I am looking for some help on how to vote for Issue 1.

  • The Republicans are telling me that I should vote “yes“ on the issue since it will keep out of state big money groups from controlling the Ohio Constitution and only a few states have the "low threshold" of 50% plus 1 to pass an amendment. Could they please provide some examples of from the past in Ohio and other states with this threshold?  Doesn't big money already control the Ohio House and Senate based on the First Energy fiasco?

  • They also say it is necessary to "protect" a ban on abortions - even though last year they said the issue had nothing to do with a ban on abortion. Can they please explain what has changed?

  • I see Republicans passing out many yard signs and heard them say vote “yes” on Issue 1 to save lives.  Can they explain why being prolife seems to stop at banning abortions and does not apply to banning capital punishment, reasonable gun control, more subsidized food, medical care, housing, and a living wage?

I am opposed to abortions, but I also believe all social issues are equally important and need to be addressed.

Without some answers, I will have to Vote “no” on Issue 1.

Where is the integrity?

If framers of Issue 1 were truly consistent about their proposal, they failed the chance to prove it.

Since they want constitutional amendments to pass only with a 60% majority vote, the language of Issue 1 should have proclaimed “This amendment shall pass only with a 60% majority vote.”

Unfortunately, it said no such thing. Apparently, the proponents of Issue 1 don’t have that level of integrity.
