Column is a deliberate political lie

Re: Ingrid Jacques’ May 16 column, “Biden is bankrupting our futures”:

Shame on The Star for choosing to publish this column, and shame for the politically inspired headline. This column is nothing but an attack on President Biden, full of lies, misrepresentations and insults to the intelligence of your reading public. Ms. Jacques is an experienced journalist and therefore is fully capable of doing the research necessary to write an accurate column about the national debt. Therefore, this column is a deliberate political lie.

Republicans love to rail about the national debt — when a Democrat is president. It becomes the Boogeyman, from which only they can protect the country. Yet it is totally ignored when a Republican president decides to severely cut taxes for the rich, thus adding to the national debt for decades in the future.

Ms. Jacques uses all of the old, tired, misrepresentations such as a president being responsible for inflation and how Social Security and Medicare are going to run out of money. (The fact is the legislative body of the U.S. is responsible for all laws.) She claims that “Biden and Trump alike eschew any real discussions about reforms to these expenditures (Soc. Sec. & Medicare).”

Biden presented his recommended budget in March, which included extensive plans and ways to upgrade and reform these programs.

Ms. Jacques falsely claims that President Biden issues illegal executive actions. Does she really want to get into a discussion of presidents who engage in illegal behavior?

Revved up about Conejo car show

My wife and I have lived in the city of Thousand Oaks for 54 years. We excitedly moved here to assume the duties of Recreation Programmer with the young Conejo Recreation and Park District, which had already become one of the premier Recreation and Park entities in the state. Because of its young age, and the fact our Conejo Valley was growing quickly, the leisure services canvas was wide open to this eager new staff member. It was always my goal to develop and offer quality programs and services to a community that thrived on them.

In that vein, I would like to share another outstanding and quality event that is coming to Conejo on June 15. Calvary Community Church, at 5495 Via Rocas in Westlake Village, will be presenting its second annual “Cars We Love to Drive Car Show” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Show Car space is filling quickly because of the success of their 2023 Car Show. Like last year, there is an impressive collection of vintage and high-performance cars coming to the event; over 215 cars have already registered.

This inter-generational event, organized by Calvary’s Seasoned Adults Ministry, will be a delight for all ages, grandchildren to grandparents. There is no cost to attend or register your car. Instead of a typical entrance fee, the church is encouraging donations to be made to Calvary Community Church’s Gift-a-Lift program, which provides cars for young people coming out of the foster system and are in need of wheels for work and school.
