With cases rising, should mask mandates return?

On Dec. 22, the state reported 217 COVID cases in Barnstable County, the highest number since the pandemic began. This also brought the seven-day average for Barnstable County to 154, also the highest since the pandemic began.

This is occurring while we have a vaccination rate above 72%. Earlier in the pandemic, when these rates were lower, we had mask mandates. Is it time to revisit mask mandates?

Disappointed in ‘no’ vote on green community

As citizens of Centerville, we strongly dissent from the no votes of Town Councilors Neary and Atsalis, who represent Centerville, on the matter of whether Barnstable Township should join the vast majority of townships on Cape Cod and become a green community.

Councilor Steinhilber's view that the town is already a green community is factually wrong. Barnstable Township will not receive community grants of more than $800,000 based on his empty assertion.

Many of us living in this township have long decried the lack of oversight regarding the most basic health regulations, such as requiring and enforcing septic-tank pumping at least once a decade. That's merely an example of how far we are from being a green community.
