‘Through the Lens’ panel discussion to analyze female gender roles and evolution of photography and film

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern’s creatives have the chance to brush up on photography, film and female gender role history at “Through the Lens: A Panel Discussion” event at the Bakersfield Museum of Art Saturday.

The discussion will be lead by Bakersfield College professor of photography Kristopher Stallworth. The panel discussion will cover how women impacted waves of social, political and economic change by using the camera since 1900.

The panel will also shed light on how early trailblazers of photography laid the groundwork while serving as role models for generations of artists. The event is in honor of Women’s History month and is inspired by BMOA’s current exhibit, “Modern Women | Modern Vision: Photography from the Bank of America Collection.”

  • Sarah Reingewirtz – Staff Photographer, Los Angeles Daily News

  • Jennifer Williams-Cordova, Multidisciplinary Artist, Co-Owner of Willis & Williams Design Studios

  • Felix Adamo – Documentary Photographer

  • Keaton Punch – Artist & Cinematographer

  • Jean-Luc Slagle – Owner and Creative Director of Scope Studios

The discussion will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at BMOA located at 1930 R St. in downtown Bakersfield. Members get in for free. Tickets are $10 for seniors and students and $20 for non-members.
